7 Tips for Managing Crohn's Disease in College

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

1. Understand Your Condition:

Knowledge is power. The more you understand about Crohn's disease, the better equipped you'll be to manage it. Learn about your triggers, symptoms, and effective coping mechanisms. This will help you make informed decisions about your health. For more information on navigating Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, visit the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation.

2. Communicate with Your Professors:

Don't hesitate to inform your professors about your condition. If you take the time to explain the nature of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, they will most likely be understanding and gracious. Your professors can provide accommodations, such as extended deadlines or permission to leave class for bathroom breaks, which can make your academic life more manageable.

3. Maintain a Healthy Diet:

College dining halls may be tricky to navigate at first, but knowing the menu and ingredients can help you determine a healthy diet while at school. A helpful habit is to keep track of what you eat and how it affects you. Try to maintain a balanced diet rich in nutrients, and avoid foods that trigger your symptoms.

4. Stay Hydrated:

Drinking enough water to stay hydrated may be challenging, but its crucial to maintaining good health. Start each morning with a glass of water and carry a water bottle with you to make sure you're drinking enough throughout the day.

5. Exercise Regularly:

Regular exercise can help reduce stress and maintain overall health, which can be beneficial for managing Crohn's disease. Despite being busy, making time to exercise will help you relax and pursue good health. Find a routine that suits you, whether it's yoga, jogging, or weightlifting.

6. Manage Stress:

College can be stressful, and stress can exacerbate Crohn's symptoms. Practice stress management techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, or mindfulness. Seeking counseling and talking with close friends can be helpful. Project Crohn's offers support groups with counselors and mentors to provide the care that students with Crohn's and Colitis need.

7. Seek Support:

You're not alone in this journey. Reach out to friends, family, or support groups. Many colleges also offer resources for students with chronic illnesses. Don't hesitate to use these resources. Project Crohn’s offers holistic support groups that helps students connect with supportive mentors, counselors, and financial planners. Learn more at projectcrohns.org.
