Preparing for College Life with Crohn's Disease

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

Starting college is a significant milestone, filled with excitement, anticipation, and a fair share of nerves. For students living with Crohn's disease, there are additional considerations to keep in mind. Here are some tips to help you prepare for college life while managing your condition.

Understand Your Condition:

Before heading off to college, make sure you have a thorough understanding of your condition. Know your triggers, symptoms, and what to do in case of a flare-up. The more you know about your disease, the better equipped you'll be to manage it in a new environment.

Plan Your Healthcare:

Identify healthcare providers near your college, including a gastroenterologist familiar with Crohn's disease. Make sure you understand your health insurance coverage and know where the nearest hospital is. Keep a list of emergency contacts and your medical history handy.

Communicate with Your College:

Reach out to your college's disability services office before you arrive on campus. Discuss your condition and the accommodations you might need. This could include housing considerations, dietary needs, and academic accommodations.

Prepare for Dining on Campus:

College dining halls can be challenging to navigate with dietary restrictions. Before you arrive on campus, contact the dining services to discuss your dietary needs. They can help you identify safe food options and may be able to make special accommodations.

Organize Your Medications:

Make sure you have a plan for storing and taking your medications. Set reminders to take your medication on time, and always have a backup supply. If you're on a biologic or other medication that requires refrigeration, make sure you'll have access to a refrigerator.

Develop a Support Network:

College can be overwhelming, and having a support network can make a big difference. This could include friends, family, a mentor, or a support group. Many colleges also offer counseling services, which can be a valuable resource. Project Crohn's exists to create support groups for young adults with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Practice Self-Care:

College life can be busy, but it's essential to prioritize self-care. Make sure you're getting enough sleep, eating well, and taking time to relax and de-stress. Regular exercise can also be beneficial, but be sure to choose activities that you enjoy and that don't exacerbate your symptoms.

Preparing for college life with Crohn's disease may require some extra planning and consideration, but with the right strategies and support, you can have a successful and enjoyable college experience. Remember, it's okay to ask for help and take care of yourself. Your health is a priority, and with these tips, you can navigate college life with confidence and resilience.
